Chris Pavey – Camera Operator

It’s my job to point the camera at things, make people look and feel their best and remember to press record (that last part is very important).

I started my career as an Assistant Director in the film and television industry and got the opportunity to work with some incredible people and on some amazing productions. When I left the industry I spent 5 years working as an Entertainments Manager at a Students’ Union before the creative urges drove me back towards the cameras and I’ve not looked back since.

I once made a video that went viral, got over 3 million views and was featured by lots of publications that I admire. That was pretty cool.

I love working for Janno Media because there’s so much versatility in what we shoot and I love to have the opportunity to experience so many different industries. I always do my best to absorb a little bit of knowledge from the people that we interview meaning that I’m now a pretty handy person to have on a pub quiz team.

I grew up in a small town called Clevedon, just outside of Bristol. It was made semi-famous by the ITV drama, Broadchurch that was filmed there – as well as One Direction who made a music video on the pier. I moved to Nottingham in 2004 to attend Nottingham Trent University and have been here since.

When I’m not working, I spend most of my time with my daughter, Alex.

My top 3 films…

This changes most weeks, but for now I’ll go with:

  • Léon
  • Hot Fuzz
  • Pulp Fiction.

My favourite place…

Sydney, Australia.

Something not many people know about me…

I once had an arm wrestle with Tom Hardy. I won, clearly.

I’ve always been a firm believer in doing what you love, and I’ve been incredibly lucky to have a career which allows me to do that. Filmmaking is very much a collaborative process and working together in a creative team is something that always drives me to think of new and better ideas. It’s also one of the main reasons I love my job!
